Sierra Madre

One of the most charming cities in San Gabriel Valley is Sierra Madre. It lies just East of Pasadena and North of Arcadia and is nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains. It features eclectic architecture, multiple hiking trails and a delightful shopping village.

It is a small town with a population of around 11,000 and has just under 5,000 housing units.

RECREATION:

Sierra Madre holds an annual Wistaria festival which celebrates its 114 year old Chinese Wistaria Vine. Wistaria, natively found in the Eastern United States and Eastern Asian countries, is a group of ten species of climbing vines. Sierra Madre holds the largest Wistaria, being over one acre long and weighing 250 tons! The plant even holds a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for being one of the largest blooming plants in the world.

The Sierra Madre Vineyard is 173 acres long planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.

The Sierra Madre Playhouse

The Sierra Madre Playhouse has been providing entertainment everyone since 1979. Besides having shows for the public this playhouse also offers “Adult Workshops” and “Children Workshops” where adults and the youth, with any level of experience, can learn to act.

Pasadena High School is a public secondary school made up of 2,700 culturally diverse students. The school’s Boys Basketball team is said to be one of the best teams in Southern California. Academic-wise, Pasadena High School’s 2008 base score was 704 and the school did meet its 2008 school-wide growth target. In 2008, Pasadena had 28 students per full-time teacher, which is 7 more than the California average is (21 per full-time teacher).
