The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden is located in Arcadia right across the street from the popular Westfield Santa Anita shopping mall. Its gardens consist of plants categorized by their geographical origin. Aside from the botanic gardens, the Arboretum contains the Queen Ann Cottage, which is said to be haunted. There are some visitors who claim to have seen “the ghost of Lucky Baldwin,” the original purchaser of the area. Since its opening in 1934, this racetrack has had a range of historical events take place. Bring your own blankets/lawn seats to enjoy the summer evenings while listening to a live orchestra. You can always rent a lawn seat when you get there to avoid the hassle of bringing your own. They do allow food, so I encourage you to buy a picnic variety basket from Whole Foods in the Deli section and a nice bottle of wine to enjoy with your date/s. They do have a dining options where you can pre-order meals from Bristol Farms, Dog Haus, Kings Row Gastropub, Robin’s Wood Fire BBQ, and the Philharmonic Fountain, two weeks to twenty-four hours prior to your concert date. The Santa Anita shopping mall is always expanding. Recently, the outdoor Promenade is the new addition to the indoor mall. There are a wide variety of restaurants like the Cheescake Factory, Woodranch, California Pizza Kitchen, Bar Louie, Toyko Table along with a large food court. They even have a carousel, play area for children, nail salon, and seasonal holiday guests like Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny on special occasions!

1. If you drive around Arcadia, specifically in the neighborhood surrounding the Arboretum, you will see peacocks/peahens EVERYWHERE!
2. A film called Seabiscuit, based on a true story, was filmed at the Santa Anita Racetrack in 2003.
