Weekend Things to Do in Pasadena 5/7-8/16

Weekend Things to Do in Pasadena 5/7-8/16

Late with this but you still have time to catch almost all I’ve listed below.  Happy Mom’s Day to everyone!

Century Books.  Art Opening and Live Jazz tonite:  8pm- 11pm at this special little bookshop that does it all!  Located in the new Green Street Landmark district.   Art, Music, plus People, & BOOKS! If that isn’t enough for you how’s this: it’s FREE!  More info below:

CalTech 36th Annual Bandorama!   8pm.  RAMO Auditorium at CalTech.   Performances by the CalTech/Occidental Concert Band and the CalTech Jazz Band.  Directed By William Bing.  I hear this is his LAST performance on campus before he “retires”!  What?  He’ll be missed for sure if he goes through with that!

William Bing, Director of Concert Band at Caltech, has been teaching at Caltech for over thirty years. In addition to his work at Caltech, Bill is a busy trumpet player. He has played and recorded with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Pasadena Symphony, the California Philharmonic, the American Ballet, the Los Angeles Opera, and the Harlem Ballet. Conductors he has worked with include John Williams, Henry Mancini, Pierre Boulez, Simon Rattle, John Adams, Olivier Messiaen, and many others. Bill has won many teaching awards including the ASCIT Teaching Award from the students at Caltech, the Pasadena Youth Music Council Teachers of the Year, and most recently Honorary Membership in the Caltech Alumni Association. (A special guest will be performing in honor of Bing’s retirement.)

Now that, is yet another reason to come out to listen to the wonderful music that is always Bandorama.  You won’t be disappointed, especially at the price: FREE.  More info: (626)395-3295 or CalTech Bands.

Galerie Gabrie:  Artist Charles Muench, “Natural Beauty – Small Painting of Grandeur”.  12-5pm Sat and  also Wed-Sat if you can’t make it this day. This wonderful Pasadena gallery just put up a beautiful new art installation this week.  Plein art, landscape, natural scenery – includes some of Pasadena and our San Gabriel Valley.  Fine art with people to match!  Showing now until June 8th.  597 E. Green St.  More info:  Galerie Gabrie or (626)577-1223 and The Art of Charles Muench.
