Day 89: Sahara Middle Eastern Cuisine

Looking for some stunning Middle Eastern Cuisine?  Sahara is by far one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to… and I warn you… I am a very picky eater at times!

Day 89 of 365 things to do in Pasadena™ takes us to a place I go to at least twice a month: Sahara on E. Colorado Blvd. in East Pasadena!

Sahara is a family owned business that has been around for almost 20 years.

The staff is very friendly and all have a good sense of humor.  I practically have seen all the family members that have worked there!  I even chat with one of them about the soccer world quite often.  🙂

Middle Eastern cuisine is known for its kebabs, and the kebabs here are particularly unique because they use mesquite coals to cook up their food!  You don’t get that special flavor by cooking with gas.

The atmosphere is casual.  Sahara is the perfect place to hit up for a down to earth evening.

Every time I come here I order the same delicious item off the menu: The Lula Kebab!

At lunch, I order the light Lula Kebab plate… it comes with one lula (grilled mixture of ground beef & lamb with spices), hummus, tabbouleh, chopped onions, rice pilaf, pita bread.

Their hummus is out of this world!  It has this consistent creamy bean texture that no one can beat!  And of course the main dish… the Lula Kebab… is juicy, hot, and is marinated with just the right amount of spices.

When I come for dinner, I order the regular Lula Kebab (I cannot resist).  There are a few differences in the dinner plate… in addition to rice pilaf and chopped onions…  it is served with two kebabs, cabbage salad or soup, barbecued tomato & bell pepper, and a little starter plate containing moist feta cheese slices, cucumbers, and olives (sadly, no hummus)!  You can always order hummus on the side. 😀

A thing to notice** The food comes right out when it is ready.  It comes steaming hot off the grill… you can see your meal come off the grill right from your table!

There is a little secret to why Sahara is an amazing restaurant:  their food is simple, authentic, fresh, and made by loving people! I couldn’t have said it any other way.

I highly encourage you and your family and friends to try this place out!  You won’t regret eating here!
