Complete your summer plans with the enchanting music performed by California Philharmonic and lead by the one and only Maestro Victor Vener. After more than three decades, this year’s set of outdoor concerts will be the last ones held at the Santa Anita Race tracks. So, make sure to catch one or more of these captivating Saturday evenings. Gates open at 5:30 pm and concerts start at 7:30 pm.
First concert will encompass music spanning three centuries and pay tribute to some of pop music’s greatest legends, including Prince, Queen, David Bowie and Michael Jackson. Second concert is where opera meets Broadway with music from Porgy & Bess, Grease, Frozen, Aida, The Lion King, Carmen and Samson & Delilah. Last concert will be filled with music from Star Wars, E.T., Jurassic Park, Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Harry Potter as well as the 1812 Overture and Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
These magnificent performances will also be available, Sunday afternoons, starting at 2 pm, at the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall with an additional performance on July 10, containing cinematic masterpieces from The Mission, Adagio For Strings from Platoon, Titanic, The Lion King and Beethoven’s 9th-Ode to Joy.
“If only the trees, bushes and ample green grass could talk, and maybe a Peacock or two, the stories they could tell,” teased Vener “I am proud and humbled to be ending Cal Phil’s outdoor concerts on such a high note at what has become Southern California’s premiere outdoor concert venue, Santa Anita Race Track. Beneath the magical San Gabriel Valley Mountains and in front of a fantastic audience of thousands of fans, friends and family. While ending our outdoor concerts is bittersweet, we are thrilled to continue to present inspired and enlightening concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall for many many more years.”
