East of the City of Pasadena sitting right next to the Santa Anita Racetrack is the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Gardens, a beautiful 127-acre botanical garden perfect to spend your summer days in.  This year they are putting on more events then ever throughout the summer season from concerts to art displays!

Here is a list of all the events that are going on in the month of July:

Pasadena POPS, July 11

A concert featuring music by “the Fab Four” otherwise known as The Beatles accompanied by a full on orchestra.  Since it will be taking place outside, it is the perfect time to get your picnic gear out and enjoy a lovely summer afternoon.

Arboretum Summer Nights Are Back! July 17 & 24

Join contemporary native jazz/blues fusion artist known as the Steve Rushingwind Project on the first day and French chanson/ Shanghai jazz/international folk artist Jessica Fichot on the second day for a peaceful evening in the botanical gardens.

*Doors open at 5pm for picnicking, children’s crafts and the Library bookmobile. Concerts begin at 6pm; members free; $5 non-members; $3 for children 5-12.

NEW! Crescent Farm Water Workshop, July 18

This workshop is the first in the Arboretum’s new series of water workshops at the Crescent farm.  You can help recreate their ribarian habitat as well as infiltration basin.  If you are interested in taking a behind the scenes look at irrigation, this is the event to be at!]

Public Art in Southern California, July 19

The Nature of Sculpture Art Talk & Sale

Until August 1st, there is an ongoing exhibit called The Nature of Sculpture which features the work of 85 artists from around the local area.  On July 19th join guest speakers Lyn Kienholz and Jay Belloli in discussing the changing artistic scene in SoCal.  There will also be garden art tours and the sale of the displayed art!

Greasy Pages Writing Workshop, July 19

Ever wanted to blog about your food?  Didn’t do so well on the essay portion of your SAT oh so long ago?  This workshop will teach you how to write about everyones favorite thing, delicious mouthwatering food!

Now is the time to start learning how you can help to conserve water in our current drought.  Stop by to learn how the Arboretum does it, and find out a few tricks you can use on your own home.

Take a walking tour through the gardens and learn about all the different beautiful butterflies around!
