Day 10 of 365: Fortune Chinese Cuisine

Fortune Chinese is located in Old Town Pasadena and comes highly recommended by Raphael Guerin, real estate agent in North East Los Angeles.   It seems that it’s been his choice for Pasadena’s Chinese food for the last five years. So we decided to give a try on day 10 of 365 Things To Do in Pasadena.

Fortune Chinese

After a long day looking at colleges with my kids, we stopped by there for lunch.  Ordered way too much food since we were pretty darn hungry and started with their Hot & Sour soup and fried dumplings.  We all loved the soup.  It was a bit different with just the right combination of spices – definitely something I’ll be coming back for.

The dumplings were not a total hit with the kids.  They looked very good, but ended up not being a favorite.

We followed that with Walnut Shrimp and their version of Orange Beef.  Walnut Shrimp was very tasty and was a definite hit.  It’s very close to PF Chang’s… although Fortune used pineapple instead of melon.  The opinion on Orange beef was split.  My son liked it, but my daughter was not enthused.  It definitely was a bit gooey and saucy… I wasn’t in love, but it was okay.

Here’ re some thoughts from Raphael.

Q.  Do you recommend going to Fortune during lunch or dinner?

A. Any time is. Food is uniformly fresh and tasty! We like the won ton strips with sweet and sour or mustard sauce that the bring to whet your appetite!

Q.Which dishes do you recommend and why?

A. Spicy string bean and chicken. My wife likes cashew nut chicken. Don’t know why _ just what we like!

Q.What makes this Chinese restaurant stand out in your mind?

A. Affordable and great flavorful food. Spices hit the Right notes!

There you go… if you’ve been there let me know what you think.  If not, it’s worth checking out and maybe ordering some of Raphael’s favorites.
