CelloFest in Los Angeles

CelloFest in Los Angeles

Free Concert Night at the Occidental Collage!

On April 5, eight cellists will no doubt entertain you with an evening of music bounding across eras and cultures. Imagine the sounds of Brazilian tango, classical tunes of Bach and fiery flamenco!

I wanted to create a program that celebrates the virtuosity and versatility of the cello outside of the structure of the orchestral setting. And I wanted to to be sure to have some fun.” said Ms. Lum, cello instructor at Occidental College. “I asked seven cellist colleagues I know through the Philharmonic to tell me what compositions they are passionate about playing. Then I asked if they would be willing to share those personal passions in a free concert for the public. They all said yes.

Performing with Gloria Lum will be Robert deMaine, Ronald Leonard, Barry Gold, Jason Lippmann, Dahae Kim, Peter Myers, and Joy Song.

CelloFest is an excellent example of Occidental’s commitment to a vibrant music program,” said David Kasunic, chair of the college’s music department. “We are eager to follow the wonderful lead of our cello instructor Gloria Lum in making Occidental a place that takes full advantage of Los Angeles’ musical talent. CelloFest is such an event, which we are able to offer free to the entire public, thanks to the Benjamin H. Culley Fund.”
