I have driven past this little cafe plenty of times, but it wasn’t until Mike from Cafe Pasadena recommended I check it out, that I actually made reservations for lunch. And, what a great Pasadena restaurant recommendation!
Cafe Verde is located in the South Lake District on Green Street, just a bit away from the hustle and bustle of Lake Avenue and specializes in Latin American cuisine.
It is very tiny, yes… quite small, restaurant that is just charming. Cafe Verde actually expanded to two rooms now, but still tables are few and reservations are strongly recommended.
I decided to try them for lunch. My friend Joyce and I made reservations for an early lunch at 11:30 am. There were a few tables already taken, but by 12:30, the place was packed.
Seating was comfortable and service was outstanding. The food was quite a surprise! Absolutely delish and totally unexpected!
I had Angel Hair Pasta with garlic and tomato basil sauce which was absolutely perfect. Just the right amount of sauce and garlicky goodness! And… let’s not forget, plenty of freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Loved it!
My friend tried their Cobb Salad which she thoroughly enjoyed as well!
Cafe Verde offers a perfect spot for family gatherings and small parties. It is also great for breakfast with huevos rancheros and french toast being the diners’ favorites.
Dinner menu is quite enticing. Starters include seared scallops and crab cakes. Main course selection is quite good with lamb chops and hand made lobster pasta amongst the offerings. If you are planning a romantic dinner, atmosphere, food and service are all there, as well.
