Day 332: TK’s Cafe in Old Pasadena

Formerly known as Tede’s Cafe, this small cafe serves up sandwiches, soups and a variety of beverages including Jones Coffee on Union Street in Pasadena.

When I was invited to lunch by one of my friends at Tedes last week, I was surprised to see a new name.  However, in speaking with the owner and one of his daughters Tiffany who the cafe is named for (Tiffany and Kimberly – TK – both daughters), I was told that the menu will stay the same.

It’s literally a hole in the wall, but very Pasadenean.  Brick walls, a few tables, great service and a very relaxed, laid back atmosphere.  The price for sandwiches is a bit on the high end from $6 to $8, but what differentiates TK’s is that they will customize your sandwich and serve it to you any way you want without any complaints and with a smile on their face.  Everyone is just plain nice!

I ordered an Egg Salad sandwich on a wheat baguette.  The bread was unique, a little on the sweet side (honey added?), but paired well with the egg salad, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers.

My friend ordered their Turkey, Bacon and Avocado sandwich also on the wheat baguette and enjoyed every last bite.

Daily specials are available and any sandwich can be turned into a wrap at no charge.  They also serve 1/2 a sandwich with a side and drink for only $6.75 – a pretty good deal!

So, if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Old Pasadena, check out TK’s.  It could easily become your lunch spot of choice.
