Day 298: Saladang Song

Today, my friend and I were craving Thai food and one of the best places in Pasadena is down the street from my office – Saladang Song.

Saladang Song

It’s hard to not notice this restaurant as you’re driving down Fair Oaks.  The architecture is unique and striking.  There’s a tall cement wall with Thai inspired wrought iron design throughout.  The interior decor is quite modern and almost stark looking however softened by multiple orchid plants which make it quite classy.  Bright and sunny, given that 3 of the 4 walls are all glass.  Patio is huge and beautiful – perfect to enjoy a spring day.

The food is California Thai cuisine.  Great and varied lunch menu with most items running under $10.  Beware, you get a lot of food!  All lunch items are served with fried calimari minus the tentacles and a fresh side salad.

I usually order Thai Barbecue Chicken, but today decided to try the Pad Thai Gai – Pad Thai with Chicken.  It was quite delicious.  My friend tried their Basil Beef which was served steaming hot – your choice of white or egg fried rice.  I stole a bite and it was so good that will be on my side of the table next time I’m there.

And… of course… who doesn’t like to be treated to a scoop of very un-Thai, but still delicious ice cream – Cookies and Cream!

The service was excellent with the server explaining all the different offerings and making suggestions after asking our preference for rice vs. noodles.   Definitely a fun and sexy place for lunch.  Have you been at the Song?  If so, what’s your favorite dish?
