This Saturday on June 21 you will get the chance to enjoy an evening of wine and craft beer tasting at “An Evening at Fresco”. As many as 40+ exquisite wines and unique craft beers will be represented and you will probably find a favorite or two! What’s even better is that, by attending this event you are also supporting the organization Urban Harvester, which has through their inspirational work begun a movement against the waste of fresh food that’s taking place in our community every day.
“An Evening at Fresco” will take place at the Fresco Community Market between 8-11 PM (located just South-West of South Pasadena). Throughout the evening you will get a chance to enjoy the fabulous Silent Auction which will include items such as Rose Bowl Parade Tickets, LA Kings Tickets, Hotel and Restaurant experiences and much more. Keep an eye on your favorite item to make sure you win the bid!
The proceeds from the evening will benefit the organization Urban Harvester that helps those who need food and divert tons of fresh and healthy food from the waste stream. Here’s some fact shared on the Urban Harvester website:
- One out of every six people in the United States is food insecure.
- 40% of all food produced in the United States is wasted.
By connecting surplus food to other non-profit community agencies they have been able to provide 30,000 meals to those in need throughout Los Angeles County. The surplus foods are products that are not expired but just moved off the shelves to make room for newer items. Urban Harvester’s pilot program tracked over 20 tons of food that was distributed to the community and thereby also reducing greenhouse gas emissions that would otherwise come from the waste stream! At the “An Evening at Fresco” event you have a chance to support this admirable work that Urban Harvester is doing together with their donors and partners.
