Day 261: Celebrating Chinese New Year

This coming week there will be numerous celebrations taking place in many cities around the world welcoming the Chinese New Year!

Day 261 of 365 Things To Do in Pasadena invites you to take part in the Chinese New Year Celebration taking place at the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena.

This year the Chinese New Year is celebrated on February 3rd and it is the Year of the Rabbit.

The rabbit is artistic, diplomatic, a keeper of the peace and is seen to represent love of the home and family.

Pacific Asia Museum Chineses New Year Celebration takes place Saturday, January 29th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm

This is free fun filled day for the entire community!

All of the museum galleries will be open to enjoy along with crafts, demonstrations and hands-on activities, food and gift vendors, plus live music, dance, martial arts, acrobatics, magic and more!

Come help welcome in the Year of the Rabbit, it will be fun for all ages. This event has been made possible by Wells Fargo, and is Co-presented by the Museum’s Chinese Arts Council. Media Sponsorship provided by KPCC and Pasadena Weekly.

Schedule of Performances:

♦11:30 am – Lion dance
♦12:00 pm –  Kungfu demonstration
♦12:30 pm – Magical face-changing and teapot balancing
♦1:00 pm – Chinese musical performance
♦1:30 pm – Chinese cultural dances and Flower arranging demonstration
♦2:00 pm – Bowl-kicking act
♦2:30 pm – Magic show and Penjing demonstration
♦3:00 pm – Youth lion dance
♦3:30 pm – Puppet shows and Flower arranging demonstration
♦4:00 pm – Chinese cultural dances

Crafts activities include make-your-own calligraphy scroll, button making, Year of the Rabbit decoration activity, paper cutting, paper folding, face painting and festive coloring activity.
Demonstrations include Kung-fu, Chinese flower arranging and Penjing (Chinese Bonsai).
Food Vendors will offer for sale Chinese cuisine, Japanese cuisine, Thai cuisine, and boba tea.
Craft and Gift Vendors will offer for sale tea and tea accessories, Chinese clothing accessories and Lunar New Year décor items.
