Day 236: Spaghetti Factory

I was just on Pasadena Macaronikid website and they were talking about today being a National Spaghetti Day.  When I think of Spaghetti, I think of Spaghetti Factory.  Spaghetti Factory is located about 20 minutes East of Pasadena in Duarte.

Why Spaghetti Factory?

Spaghetti Factory trainFirst of all, kids of all ages, love it!  There’s something about a huge plate of steaming hot spaghetti with Mizithra cheese and browned butter!  For Tortellini lovers, try their Spinach Tortellini with Alfredo Sauce.  My dad loves the Chicken Marsala and my daughter has her new favorite, Garlic Mizithra.

If you feel like a starter, try their Broccoli which is gently tossed with browned butter and Mizithra (can you see the common denominator here – Mizithra cheese!) and of course, make sure to get their hot bread with garlic butter!  Yum!

The great part of the Spaghetti Factory experience is that a complete dinner will run you around $10 and that includes a soup or salad, a drink and spumoni ice cream.

Spaghetti Factory in Duarte is also set in an old schoolhouse located along Route 66.  There are pictures of kids and teachers throughout, as well as class room blackboards, Victorian Style lamp shades, full size flags along the wall and their infamous, train caboose is sitting in the middle of the main dining room.  Very cool!

And, here’s a quick excerpt from MacaroniKid regarding the National Spaghetti Day (read the full article here):

National Spaghetti Day is a holiday that cannot be documented as to when it first started, but we don’t particularly care. It’s a special day to celebrate our second favorite pasta and we love it! What’s better than a big steamy bowl of spaghetti and hearty sauce on a cold winters night? Enjoy a satisfying pasta dinner with your family and share with them a few fun Spaghetti facts:

* The first American pasta factory was opened in Brooklyn, New York, in 1848, by a Frenchman named Antoine Zerega. Mr. Zerega managed the entire operation with just one horse in his basement to power the machinery. To dry his spaghetti, he placed strands of the pasta on the roof to dry in the sunshine.
